A child born in Slovakia acquires citizenship of the Slovak Republic only if at least one of his parents is a citizen of the Slovak Republic. Child born in Slovakia to foreigners with temporary or permanent residency have preferred mode in order to obtain adequate residency status.
Registry Office in Bratislava–Rača registers children born on its territory. It issues key document for each person - Birth certificate (“Rodný list”). For this purpose father (parents, mother) must visit Registry office with Marriage Certificate and Identity Cards of both parents. It is not required to take care on Birth Declaration (“Hlásenie o narodení”) issued by health centre where child had been born (they communicate directly with Registry Office). More specific it is in a case of single or divorced mother.

Parents obtain financial assistance to their newborn child provided by Bratislava-Rača self-government usually if at least one parent has permanent place of residence here. It is reasonable to contact Social Affairs Department at Bratislava-Rača Local Office department for details.
